THE COVENANT In Action
Tour?
 The
Covenant with Black America will not truly be a
success unless we realize its promise. To do that we must
act; act as individuals to do what we can to improve our
lives and the lives of those in our families and
communities—that means becoming role models for the change
we seek, volunteering, mentoring, organizing for change,
speaking out, holding leaders accountable, and becoming
advocates for justice. I hope THE COVENANT In Action
inspires and helps you to become part of The Covenant
movement. -- Tavis SmileyBoston, MA

THE COVENANT In Action tells just a few of the
stories of the wonderful things that Black people have done
to advance The Covenant goals. It describes
activities that have been instigated by The Covenant
and it offers profiles of young Black activists who
exemplify the quality of leadership that is emerging from
the next generation.
To encourage and increase that capacity, THE COVENANT
In Action includes a toolkit to help us
systematically take on the issues described in The
Covenant,

Carl Weber, Nishawnda Ellis (Wives & Girlfriends), Stacey
Harris (Passionate Misfortunes) and customer/reader 4-25-06
Carl Weber, #1 Essence ® bestselling novelist, is the
author of THE PREACHER'S SON , Player Haters , Baby
Momma Drama , Married Men , Lookin' for Luv and the novella
Easy Street , written with La Jill Hunt and included in the collection he
edited, A Dollar and A Dream.
Despite the success and acclaim Carl Weber has found with all of his novels, he
says that the path which lead him there was a rocky one. “I am a life-long
reader and wanted to write, but I wasn't the best English student,” Weber
admits. When he realized that the importance of African-American fiction within
the world of publishing was growing, he couldn't resist putting his pen to the
paper. “I wanted to write a book about ordinary people who have crazy things
happen in their lives,” Weber says. His work stood out and received immediate
positive response from readers, including in the all-important sales arena.
“Once you get one under your belt, once you get that first break, life is
easier,” says Weber whose first novel, Lookin' For Luv , a “relationship novel”
written from the rarely heard male perspective, was published in 2000. Weber has
drawn upon personal experiences with “a little more spice” in creating Married
Men , his second novel, and has also moved away from his comfort zone with Baby
Momma Drama , his third novel, which he wrote from a woman's perspective.
A former reviewer for the Amsterdam News , he is the founder, publisher, and
editorial director of the recently established Urban Books, which he established
just as hip hop fiction moved into the spotlight. Notably, readers seemed
especially drawn in by Weber's commitment to publishing authors such as The
Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah and True to the Game by Teri Woods,
gaining national attention. Weber is also a past recipient of Blackboard's
Bookseller of the Year award.
Weber graduated from Virginia State University and holds an MBA in marketing
from the University of Virginia. He lives in Long Island, New York with his
family.

Me
& Mrs. Jones by K. M. Thompson -RJ Publications/Trade Paper- $14.95
OUR PRICE $11.96
Faith Jones has been lonely and sexually deprived for quite some
time. After a near-death encounter at the hands of her now incarcerated husband,
she has given up on ever finding love and romance again. When Faith least
expects it, romance happens to her, but at the cost of total betrayal of her
son’s trust. Her son’s best friend, young and handsome, Darius, forces Faith to
lose control every time he visits.
Inspired by the recent slew of reports of older woman younger male affairs that
have seized the attention of the public, local author K.M. Thompson decided to
write a story addressing the issue with a different twist. His debut novel, Me
and Mrs. Jones, is due for release March 2006.
Me and Mrs. Jones takes the view point of the older woman,
Faith Jones. After a near death encounter at the hands of her incarcerated
husband, Faith has given up on ever finding love and romance. But it soon
happens when she least expects it. Her son’s best friend, young and handsome
Darius Tate, forces Faith to lose control every time he visits. Their secret
rendezvous may be the best thing to happen in Faith’s bedroom, but it could be
the worst decision that either of them has ever made.
In addition to this, Thompson adds a back story illustrating the struggles
students go through with MCAS and high school graduation, using
eighteen-year-old Darius. Working as a teacher and student counselor in one of
the roughest neighborhoods in Boston, Thompson discovered that this was one of
the many tribulations that many students face.
Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, K.M. Thompson has been writing since
high school. He is an innovative novelist who has been published in local
newspapers, literary magazines, and in online literary sites.
In college he wrote a number of articles and created a comic strip (Meet Tyrell
and Phil) for The Third Rail Student Newspaper. He was elected assistant editor
after one year. Subsequent to serving as assistant editor for only one semester,
Thompson was elected as president of the African American Student Club and
co-founded its newsletter Black Voices. He wrote a number of articles, while
also acting as managing editor.
His TV drama pilot, CrossRoads was a semi-finalist in the 2005 PAGE
International Screenwriting Awards. He was also an essay contest winner in 2001
for Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society. He is currently a member of the Color of
Film Collaborative, Grub Street, Inc., and Organization of Black Screenwriters.
Thompson received his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Tufts University, a
Graduate Certificate in Screenwriting from Emerson College and is currently
enrolled for a Certificate in Television Writing from the University of
California. For him, this is just the beginning.
